FAQs

How much does it cost?

Our lowest priced job, writing and distributing a simple press release starts at £250 and our basic charges are £600 per day. Most of our clients operate on a retained basis with a basic UK-only retainer starting at £2500 per month while a basic pan-European retainer costs £5000 per month. Our clients vary so greatly in the services they require and the territories they want to target though that each has an individual price.

What’s covered in a PR retainer?

With Technical Publicity a retainer represents the best value as we are always searching to squeeze every bit of value out of the fee for our clients. We proactively seek out opportunities for our client and also incorporate the following elements into the retainer fee: consultancy, directional, executive and administration time, routine postage, telecommunications, stationery costs, press clipping service and other routine consumables and establishment expenses in the UK

How is the administration handled?

PR creates a great deal of administration as individual tasks have to be documented from origination to publication. However, we have a great deal of experience in running PR accounts both large and small and use a status report system which breaks the current actions down into easily understandable and traceable sections.

My subject is technical, will you understand it?

We have members of staff who are mechanical, electrical and electronics engineers and we are experts in taking technical information and turning it into readable, interesting copy.

How do I go about getting customer case studies?

Case studies, or as journalists refer to them, application stories are difficult to capture no matter which sector you operate within. Technical Publicity has a system in place which prevents false starts and wasted effort and which makes it clear at the outset the approvals which are required in order to go forward.

What contacts do you have?

Technical Publicity has been around for a long time, since 1984 in fact, and during our twenty five plus years we have established a huge network of media contacts across Europe. Also, we employ a number of ex-journalists and their contacts are current and their relationships with them are very real. We work hard on establishing proper, real-world, relationships with journalists because despite the fact that email covers up for a multitude of sins people still want to work with people.

How many staff have you got?

The Technical Associates Group has 20 staff and these are split roughly 50:50 between PR personnel and integrated marketing.

If I want to organise a global campaign can you handle it?

Up until the last two years we would have had to say ‘no’ but today we can say a resounding ‘yes’. We are big believers in specialism (ours is the B2B trade and technical media in Europe) and therefore we have established a network of like-minded partner agencies one based in the USA (link to Outlook) and one based in the Far East (link to Tech Works). With these partners we run global accounts, ensuring a uniform message for the clients and the best use of budget as collateral can be shared and used across regions.

Do you do translations?

Language and culture are crucial to the work that we do within Europe and that means, very often, translating press information. The languages which we cover on an everyday basis are: German; French; Italian: Spanish; Dutch; all Scandinavian languages; Polish; Russian; Slovakian. We have also covered projects which required Hebrew, Korean and Japanese.

What are you doing on the social media front?

Inevitably we are doing more on the social media front as it becomes more of an accepted channel for our clients. The amount of work in social media varies greatly from client to client and market to market and it’s cost effective to link it to the PR work. We are also active ourselves in social media so why not look at our blog and sign up for our monthly email newsletter.
